In a recent photo and video shoot at Sparkling Hill in BC with Lexy, I had the chance to try something really cool – using vintage cinema lenses for the first time. One of these was a special lens, the 58mm Helios 44-2, which I’ve been excited to use. It’s an old lens, but now it’s been put into a new cinema lens body, making it perfect for today’s photography and videos. The video was shot with this lens. For the photos, I used the Mir 1B 37mm, which is also a vintage soviet lens, and one of the best lenses for sun flare that I’ve ever used. There was obviously no flare in this shoot, but I’m excited to try that out in a future shoot.

The results were amazing. This lens has a way of making the photos and videos look unique, with a kind of soft and vintage feel that you don’t see with modern lenses. It’s like stepping back in time, but with a modern twist. It was a great experience to combine this vintage style with the beautiful setting of Sparkling Hill.
